Website Reorganization

As you can probably see, I've spruced up the website a bit. The "download" link above is where you'd go now to get the latest version of the Midnight Mars Browser software. The "screenshots" link has some pictures of the Mac version in action, and the "movies" link has some old rover movies which I'll try to update at some point in the relatively near future.

Work on version 1.1.2 continues. As I mentioned earlier, the next slated features are the image import, export and delete options, which are meant to make it easier for those of us who are currently burning up ~7Gb on our hard drives to archive some images and clear up some space... Not that you have anything to put on your hard drives other than MER raw images, of course.

Version 1.1.1

Here are the new features in Midnight Mars Browser version 1.1.1:

- Select which cameras' images to update in Advanced Update Images.

- The new "Fast Update (new images only)" option in Advanced Update Images downloads only images that aren't present locally, so the update doesn't have to check if the image on the server is newer than the local version. This can result in a speedy update, at the cost of missing any existing images that need to be updated to a newer version.

- New image selection options in the Edit menu allow you to select individual images within the image criteria to display within a Slideshow. This will be used to support some functionality later (specifically, adjusting the anaglyph settings on a selection of images). "Limit to Selected Images" in the Navigate menu causes the Slideshow to display only the selected images within the image criteria. "Show All Images Matching Criteria" causes the Slideshow to display all images within the image criteria; selected images are indicated in the title bar with "[selected]".

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.1

Version 1.1 is now available. The main new feature for 1.1 is the Sol Information window, which shows the JPL mission update for the Martian day being viewed in the Slideshow. Also new is the ability to download metadata from the Midnight Mars Browser site; this is used to get the information to show in the Sol Information window. The "quick presets" popup menu in the Slideshow Image Criteria dialog has been reorganized to make it more useful.

Larry's Lookout East Overhang

Spirit is now on the east side of Larry's Lookout, and is returning pancam images. Looks to me like the oldest/most interesting rock might be directly under this lovely and dangerous-looking overhang. A better context image is here.

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.0.9

Version 1.0.9 fixes a bug in 1.0.8's new "Check for New Images" feature where clicking the "Update from JPL" button would not work.

Midnight Mars Browser Version 1.0.8

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.0.8 is now up.

- "Check for New Images" feature does a quick scan for new images at both JPL and Exploratorium.

- Proxy support. Set up is in Preferences.

- Fixed a problem where updates could freeze indefinitely on a network read. (The read now times out after a minute, and the program tries again.)

- Added a check to avoid re-downloading identical files, as when switching between JPL and Exploratorium downloads.

- Consolidated two "Advanced Update Images" menu options into one.

Midnight Mars Browser Version 1.0.7

Midnight Mars Browser Version 1.0.7 is now online. Here's what's new:

  • Improved Slideshow Criteria Dialog, including options to exlude solar filter images and most sundial images from the slideshow.
  • Added Image Info Window: shows details about the image based on the image filename.
  • Changed the filename format of generated images to work better with the Image Info window and image filtering - filename now includes the command sequence number etc. If you are updating from a previous version, all generated images should be regenerated using the "Regenerate Images" option in the Update menu.
  • Changed Update Log Window to be a single window and retain its contents.
