Midnight Mar Browser Development Update

Big things are coming to Midnight Mars Browser in the near future. A new version is on the way. Just wanted to mention that, in case you don't visit the site often: stay tuned.

Spirit continues to climb Husband Hill. At Meridiani, Opportunity has finally extended its arm to examine the soil near Purgatory Dune. The soil near its tracks looks like it has been covered with dust.

Version 1.1.6

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.1.6 is now up, here's what's new:

-Anaglyphs are now generated without the left and right borders, to make them easier to put into panoramas.

-An error downloading a single image will no longer terminate the update (per request). The error will be logged and the update will continue.

Flickr

I'm playing around with Flickr-blogging Midnight Mars Browser-generated images. It's so much fun I might keep doing it for awhile.

Donation Button

Several people who use the MMB software have asked why there isn't a donate button on this page. Well, now there is. If you use the program quite a bit, consider making a small donation. You don't get anything in return except the satisfaction of paying for a nice bit of software that you use often, and it might increase my motivation to keep working on the program.

Version 1.1.5

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.1.5 features enhancements related to the new "Automatic Update" feature. The main window now displays the current local (Earth) time as well as the start time of the most recent update. The Update Status window is now limited to the last 1000 lines so that its memory usage will not grow indefinitely if you leave the program running.

Version 1.1.4 - Automatic Update Feature

Version 1.1.4 introduces the Automatic Update feature. Check the "Automatic Update" box in the main window, and the program will scan for image updates every hour automatically. You can now leave Midnight Mars Browser running on your computer while you work, and it will pop up a window when new images appear; or you can leave it running at night, and check the new images in the morning. The scan for new images happens two minutes after the hour to give the Exploratorium site time to update (which happens on the hour) so it is important your system's clock is set accurately.

Version 1.1.3

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.1.3 adds the "Export Slideshow to Movie Frames..." feature, which exports images in the slideshow to a directory, naming them in numerical order by timecode. The images can then be used to make a movie using QuickTime Pro or other software. Some examples are on the movies page.

Version 1.1.2

Midnight Mars Browser version 1.1.2 introduces the Image Import, Export, and Delete features under the File menu; these can be used for archiving images, amongst other things. A potential issue where http connections might not be closed is fixed, as well as one or two other minor bugs. Click the "download" link above to download the latest version.
