Midnight Mars Browser 1.4.3 fixes some bugs, including a file handle leak that could cause problems when viewing many panoramas or images in sequence. Also the delete images option now properly deletes thumbnails.

All Pan Metadata Updated

All the MMB pan metadata has been regenerated with data from the Pancam Tracking Database. Above, a 70 degree view of "El Dorado" in ground-relative perspective.

Generating Pans from the Pancam Tracking Database

I'm working on generating MMB pans using data from the Pancam Tracking Database. This will allow all the panoramas to be viewed ground-relative (rover tilt accounted for, with zero degrees facing north), and also I hope it will save me a lot of work generating panoramas by hand. The view above is from the Erebus Pan, generated from Pancam Tracking data - the main difference from the created-by-hand version is that the frames showing the rover have been filled in, which would have been far too much work for me to do by hand.

False color of "Gibson" coming in. James Canvin has a much better version of this partial mosaic at his site.

Also, Opportunity moved to a new target, but still hasn't done a long drive. That may be coming soon, though... something to look out for.

The panoramas from Spirit and Opportunity Sols 450-540 have been updated from the latest NASA PDS update. Also Daniel Crotty's calibrated color images have been updated.

Above is the 90 degree view due West on Sol 744. Looks almost like a "bay"! This is taken from rover's position right next to "Home Plate".

Spirit Sol 742-743 - Direction Update

90-degree view facing South on Spirit Sol 742-732. "Home Plate" is at center, McCool Hill at left. I've updated the direction of the Sol 742-743 pan based on the JPL maps. North should now be North, to within perhaps 10 degrees or so. I was considerably off before. I'll go back and correct some of the earlier pans, later. Views facing North, East and West are also posted on the Flickr site.
